At first, I didn't think about working as an illustrator, but I just enjoyed drawing. In 2010, I shared my hand drawn works such as pen and ballpoint pen drawings online, and they unexpectedly became popular. As a result, people started asking me for submissions, and when I received more submissions, I became an illustrator. Over the past decade, I have collaborated on hundreds of business cases, including packaging designs from many well-known brands, and have naturally entered the field of brand packaging design.

At present, I am working at my illustration design studio, where I provide packaging and illustration design services for well-known domestic and foreign brands. Due to the need to make works more convenient for transmission and application, I have less time to create on paper. Most of the commercial illustration design work is completed on a computer.

The transition from an illustrator to a boss: Nowadays, due to busy work, my energy for drawing is not as much as before. As the business grows, the team expands, and I invest a significant amount of time and energy in company operations and management, which correspondingly enhances various skills of mine beyond just drawing.

The essence of design lies in discovering and solving problems. We have found that many brands’ products lack design aesthetics in their packaging. With the improvement of living standards and aesthetics, many consumers also consider packaging aesthetics when selecting products. We employ professional illustration design to create customized and distinctive packaging designs for our customers, which not only enhances brand image but also fulfills their aesthetic needs.

What impressed me the most was that I sketched the packaging for Milk Deluxe using a ballpoint pen in 2019. It took me only three days to complete, including one all-nighter. In the end, I created a relatively classic packaging that continues to be used today.

First of all, I welcome and hope that more and more newcomers can enter the illustration design industry, creating more value for the sector and further promoting its development. Secondly, regarding illustration design, my suggestion is that if you are a beginner in painting, choice is very important. Please try not to blindly follow trends, but instead, ask yourself what style or painting method you truly enjoy. First, clearly identify the direction that interests you and where your strengths lie. Then, work hard and continuously create and share your works. Through this process, you will receive unexpected gains and surprises.
