Design is a job that can create beauty and surprise. When I see people love and appreciate my work, it feels really great. The story I want to share the most is that since 2015, I have been leading font design enthusiasts in the " one font design per day " campaign. Now, after 8 years of continuous creation, " one font design per day " over 3000 entries. On our platform, numerous font design masters have emerged, along with a wealth of excellent font designs.
As a designer, I pay close attention to designs around me. Whether it's while shopping or walking down the street, typography on product packaging or storefronts often catches my eye. I analyze what makes these designs good, where they fall short, and how they could be optimized and improved. This tendency might be considered as a unique hobby or even a bit of a compulsion among designers.
Beyond this, design has many other impacts on my life. For instance, my children know I'm a designer, and I've shown them the fonts I've created and shared my work with them. Sometimes, while they're watching TV or snacking, they'll spot one of my font designs and excitedly point it out to me. As a designer, it's incredibly interesting and rewarding to see them feeling proud of my work.
A good design is both visually appealing and functional. Additionally, I appreciate creative designs that introduce fresh and innovative elements that haven't been expressed before. As a designer, it's our fundamental task to bring creativity into our work, so a creative design should also be considered as a good design.
In college, when I started studying design, I don't remember my very first piece of work, but I vividly recall the first artwork that earned me money. It was a logo design that I submitted for a competition. I won the contest and earned 40 yuan from that project, and I used it to treat my roommates to a meal. It was the first time I earned money with my own design skills.
After more than a decade in the design career, I believe as a designer, one must have patience and persistence. Because geniuses are rare, if you're committed to designing and practicing it daily, you'll eventually surpass the majority.
