What Is the Best Projector for a Bushnell Launch Pro golf Simulator?

Golf simulator buffs have been waiting for a while to get their hands on the latest Bushnell Launch Pro golf simulator. The Launch Pro can be used either indoor or outdoor to track your carry distance, clubhead speed, launch, and spin regardless of if you are on the driving range or set up at your home golf simulator. It also comes with a free year of Foresight FSX Pro software to enable you to create an immersive golf simulator when used with the right projector. So, to avoid getting stuck with a generic projector when you buy your setup, we’ll look at some popular golf simulator projectors that are ideal for a Bushnell setup.

Option #1 – Smaller Setup with a Square Screen

The least expensive way to get started with a Bushnell home golf simulator is with a square-shaped impact screen and a short-throw lamp-powered projector. The square shape of the screen and enclosure enables you to have a taller screen without using too much of the wall width. For screens less than ten feet wide, the BenQ MX825STH short throw projector is an ideal fit.

First, the DLP chip it uses has a native 4:3 aspect ratio, so it will light up the screen without a lot of fussing around. The short-throw lens means you can use this with a floor enclosure and run the cables through the floor if you don’t want to mount it overhead. Finally, this model has a special “EcoBoost” lamp technology that enables a 10,000-hour lamp life without sacrificing a lot of brightness – and cost less than $700

Option #2 – Larger Wide Screen Setup for Immersive Golfing

When you want to feel like you’re actually playing on the #16 at Cypress Point, you will want a 16:10 impact screen with the widescreen enclosure to draw you into every hole. This is the perfect setup for a laser projector. Why? Your impact screen will be nearly double the size of a home theater screen, so you need a bright projector with accurate color.

While a traditional lamp projector might last 3000 hours before having to be replace the lamp, a laser projector with the same brightness will last 20,000 hours or more – and it lets you start playing in just six seconds.

Most simulators will use either a mobile cart to hold the projector outside the hitting area or mount the projector above and behind the hitting area. For a cart-mounted projector, you can use the BenQ LU710 model, which is small enough to go into most carts, but the BenQ LU935ST is a very popular model that can be ceiling mounted out of the way of your driver – and has the optical and digital corrections to completely fill nearly any screen with a few simple adjustments.

Both these projectors are the only ones available at this brightness level that are truly color accurate, which means that the tee box at Teton Pines on the FSX 2020 software looks like it should – especially compared to a traditional classroom projector used by other brands.

Option #3 – A Simulation Theater

Today over 50% of golfers are building “SimTheater” that enables the golf simulation space to be used for family entertainment. A traditional home theater screen is only 100 inches while SimTheater screens are around 15 feet wide, requiring a bright projector with excellent color accuracy.

Enter the BenQ LK936ST – the first projector designed for both golf simulators as well as showing movies on a giant screen. What makes this special is the true 4K technology which displays over 8.3 million pixels – nearly four times a typical 16:10 WUXGA classroom projector. The projector also supports HDR and other AV features such as pass-through audio, so when you flip your simulator to a computer or Blu-Ray player, it will render your movies, games, and video streams with perfect clarity and color.
